10/14 – The New York Jets have announced that the winner of the 2009 National Anthem Contest is Meghann Carr of Morristown, N.J. Carr, the winner of the finals decided by more than 138,000 total votes in online balloting at newyorkjets.com, will perform the anthem on Sunday at the Meadowlands before the kickoff for the Jets' game against the Buffalo Bills as part of the Jets' Fan Appreciation Day festivities. Ebony Mack and Samantha Dango, the runners-up to Carr in the balloting, have each received two tickets to Sunday's game. Carr is the second Anthem Contest winner in Jets history. The first winner was Heather Kreuzman, who performed the anthem in 2007. Congratulations, Meghann, and we know you'll be in great voice for your performance at Sunday's game. 10/14 – Character, passion, decibel level, vertical jump, lung strength — these are all the characteristics the Jets were looking for in the one individual to lead the team out of the Meadowlands tunnel before Sunday’s Fan Appreciation Day game against the division rival Buffalo Bills. Or as head coach Rex Ryan says, an “every-down player” who “is going to be critical to the success of our team.” And after a painstaking search, the winner of the Join the Jets Sweepstakes is (drum roll) ... Curt Gandolfo from Raritan, N.J. Gandolfo will get the distinct pleasure of putting on the pads and the green and white uniform and of leading all 53 Jets players and their coaches through the tunnel and onto the field before a full house of wildly cheering fans. So when you see No. 09 ahead of the pack, it’s not a new Jets player. It’s your fellow fan, Curt.

ITALIAN GARLIC BREAD BURGERS Ingredients 1½ lbs. ground beef 1 package (11.75 ounces) frozen mozzarella and garlic bread Salt and pepper 4 tomato slices 12 large fresh basil leaves Cooking Instructions Heat bread according to package directions for grilling. Watch that the bread does not burn on bottom. Meanwhile, lightly shape ground beef into four ¾-inch-thick patties. Place patties on grill and fry over medium ash-covered coals. Grill uncovered, 13 to 15 minutes, to 160°F doneness, turning occasionally. Cut bread crosswise into four “buns.” Season burgers with salt and pepper as desired. Place burgers on buns, top with tomato and basil. If mozzarella and garlic bread is not available, substitute regular garlic bread. Two minutes before burgers are done, top each with a slice of mozzarella cheese.
