Positives Help Overcome the Penalties

File Under: Eric Mangini, Drew Coleman, Brett Ratliff, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Abram Elam, Alan Faneca, Paul Raymond

The Jets' 10-7 victory over the Giants was a green and white kaleidoscope. Turn it one way and there were some appealing patterns: an outstanding pass rush against the defending Super Bowl champions, a well-executed game-winning touchdown pass from Brett Ratliff to Paul Raymond to provide the necessary points with six minutes left.

Twist it another way and the picture isn't as pretty. Twelve pena… More

Jets-Browns: 2nd Half

File Under: David Bowens, Drew Coleman, Dwight Lowery, A.J. Schable

Because of the crush of Favre business and the rapid unfolding of events since our downpour stoppage in the first quarter, I'm combining the last two quarters into a second-half Radar entry.

One note is that it's not getting old for David Bowens. The 10th-year man has made the move to inside LB and he's playing here in the third quarter of the preseason opener, but he's making plays.

Gholston, Keller Split Matchup of the Ones

File Under: Jerricho Cotchery, Ben Graham, Drew Coleman, Brett Ratliff, Vernon Gholston, Tony Richardson, Dustin Keller, Marcus Henry

Today's late practice was a mix of offense vs. defense and then special teams. And it brought us some of the first matchups between the Jets' two first-round rookies.

It was a split decision in the 1-on-1 drills. Dustin Keller beat Vernon Gholston on a reception over the middle. But the former Ohio State linebacker came back and beat the ex-Purdue tight end for a "sack."

Rhodes Sticks, Stuckey Says Thanks

File Under: Eric Mangini, Chansi Stuckey, Kellen Clemens, Kerry Rhodes, Cody Spencer, Drew Coleman, David Clowney

It was the Green & White version of "Thank you, sir, may I have another?"

WR Chansi Stuckey was running wide open at this morning's training camp practice on a slant over the middle during two-minute drills and Kellen Clemens found him.

But so did safety Kerry Rhodes.

One step after Stuckey gathered in the 18-yard pass, Rhodes sized him up, strode forward and stuck his shoulder in the middle of… More

Offense Off Its Game in the L.I. Evening

File Under: Mike Nugent, Kellen Clemens, Drew Coleman, Brett Ratliff, David Clowney, Kris Jenkins, Bubba Franks, Artrell Hawkins, Joe Smith

This evening was beautiful, splashed by the setting sun, even a bit brisk in the Long Island breezes. Nevertheless, the Jets offense scuffled a bit during the fifth practice of training camp.

Sometimes the defense had something to do with it. S Artrell Hawkins had a strong bump that knocked WR David Clowney to the ground at the end of an end-around (with Kellen Clemens as a lead blocker). Some th… More
