The Newest Jet Vet at TE: Richard Owens

File Under: signed, Minnesota Vikings, Bubba Franks, St. Louis Rams, Louisville, Richard Owens

A few months after the Buffalo Bills signed T.O., the Jets today announced the signing of R.O. That's Richard Owens.

The Jets moved quickly in replacing Bubba Franks, released Monday, on their 80-man training camp roster, announcing the signing of Owens, a big blocking tight end, late this afternoon.

Owens is a fifth-year TE, 28 years old, who checks in at 6’4” and 273 pounds. Reports at the tim… More

Franks Is a Pro with Unfinished Business

File Under: Chris Baker, Ed Reed, Rex Ryan, Brett Favre, Dustin Keller, Bubba Franks

Bubba Franks' 2008 was not the highlight of the venerable tight end's career. Even Bubba said so.

"I got hurt pretty early, so I was kind of like a fan. I had to sit back and watch," Franks told me last week after an OTA practice. "I disliked sitting on the sideline or even standing. It's something I really never had to do. Then all of a sudden you're on the sideline pretty much watching the rest… More

Head coach Rex Ryan said he was caught slightly off guard that Washington wasn't at practice for any of thi… More

Bubba's Back to Write Another Jets Chapter

File Under: Mike Tannenbaum, Abram Elam, Rex Ryan, Brett Favre, Dustin Keller, Bubba Franks, Brian Simnjanovski

GM Mike Tannenbaum was asked, after the Jets' portion of the draft had concluded on April 26, what had happened to the rumored re-signing of veteran TE Bubba Franks. Had it fallen through?

"Well, he's still a free agent," Mike T said, "so I don't think the book is totally closed on that."

How right he was. There were a few veteran TE rumors and reports before and after that, but this afternoon t… More

Keller's Take on Bake, Blocking and His QBs

File Under: Chris Baker, Kellen Clemens, Brett Ratliff, Rex Ryan, Dustin Keller, Bubba Franks

The Jets released Chris Baker in February and the Patriots wasted little time scooping up the veteran tight end.

“I was kind of surprised," Dustin Keller said this week. "It’s always the Jets and the Patriots going at it, but I think it’s going to be a great fit for him. I think he’s going to do well. Every time he played against them, he had a good game. He’s going to be in that stadium [Gillett… More
