File Under: Darrelle Revis, Eric Mangini, Ty Law, New England Patriots

11/12 — The Jets had a walkthrough inside their fieldhouse Wednesday and are scheduled to depart for New England in a few hours. Before he led the non-pads session, head coach Eric Mangini briefly met with reporters in the morning and commented on Ty Law’s first practice back with the Jets.

“He looked spry,” Mangini said of the veteran cornerback’s Tuesday workout.

After announcing the signing of Law on Tuesday, the Jets didn’t hold him back and Mangini was pleased with the early results.

“He got a decent amount of reps and he didn’t seem to be too winded,” he said.

Law, who collected 10 of his 52 career interceptions with the Green & White in 2005, was in a pleasant mood as a handful reporters inquired about his on-field return.

“I was energetic, but I was a little rusty,” he said.

It’s been a whirlwind tour for Law. He estimates he got about 3½ hours of sleep Tuesday night due to cramming.

“I had minimum sleep, but it was good just to be out there on the field and with the guys and running out there on the field. They throw you in there to really see if you’re an old man or not,” he said. “I didn’t let them see that, but I felt kind of old. I had fun, man, and I’m looking forward to helping this team win.”

You have to imagine Aliquippa, Pa., is looking forward to Thursday night’s divisional clash between the Jets and the Patriots. The Jets have two Aliquippa High School alums on their roster in the 34-year-old Law and the 23-year-old Darrelle Revis.

“He’s still got it — he’s a proven veteran,” Revis said of his mentor. “It was kind of weird to be out there practicing with him. We had always talked about playing together but it came true.”

Revis is the young Law, a lockdown corner teams try to avoid. Law’s role will be defined with time, but he promises to compete with Revis.

“In the back of my mind, I’m like he was looking up to me for all this time. Now I’m back here and I’m looking up to him now,” he said. “I’m not trying to get beat and you ain’t trying to get beat because we’re still going to talk about each other inside that locker room. It’s going to be competitive when we’re on the field at the same time.”

Mentioning Brett Favre and Bernard “The Executioner" Hopkins as motivators, Law said he didn’t come back to New York for the money. In fact, he said the Patriots offered more, but he thought this was the best opportunity for him and he thinks he can give the Jets a punch in the arm.

“This game is going to tell a lot. You’re going against a division rival who normally gets the best of you,” he said. "I’m just here to lend a helping hand and hopefully take them over the edge.”

And in a series never devoid of storylines, Ty Law will go back to Foxboro and try to defeat his former team.

“You can’t ask for anything more — you’re on prime time and you’re playing the great New England Patriots," he said. "They went undefeated last year. I’ve been a part of that organization for a long time [1995 -2004] and have had a lot of success — three Super Bowl rings. The drama continues with both of these teams and I’m just happy I have the opportunity to go out there and play.”

"DREW: 'A total of 2 teams put claims on the "hot" commodity known as J Miller. The Raiders and Broncos.' Nope, not correct. The Dolphins also put in a claim. --- Since Law also can play Safety, use him in nickle packages, and let Rhodes spy/bump Welker. Revis virtually shut down Moss in the previous game, but Moss has been receiving more and more over the middle, so we need to watch that."
