11/05 — We've heard from more than a few of you recently. Here's one hello from a Jets fan halfway around the world who is a doctor, and another in the form of a request from an NFL fan from academia who is preparing to become a doctor.
The Jets fan's name is Gokhan Mamur, and he sent me this email before the Buffalo game.
"I'm a U.S. citizen born in New York five weeks after SB3. Now I reside in Istanbul, Turkey, working as a pediatrician. Obviously, I'm a Jets fan, even though I'm on the other side of the planet and am following the games on NFLGamePass with great pleasure. I follow your articles and want to thank you for such a great job in keeping people like me far away in tune and in touch with the Jets.
"I'll have my Jets cap and Jets T-shirt on while watching the Bills game this weekend with great excitement — we're gonna win! 'Cause we've got heart! One day I dream of being right there at the Meadowlands with Fireman Ed chanting J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets!"
I can vouch that on Oct. 31, Gokhan predicted a 26-21 Jets win, which was four points off the actual score, and cracked open an Efes (that's a Turkish beer, for all you domestic folks) in a toast to newyorkjets.com and to the Jets. We'll do the same for you, Dr. Mamur.
The other email I wanted to pass on to our Radar operators is from John Spinda of Kent State, who is asking any interested fans to participate in his doctoral dissertation on, oddly enough, sports fans. Here's his email:
"As an NFL fan, I enjoy the chance to read blogs whenever possible. Recently, I decided to conduct my Ph.D. dissertation at Kent State University on sports fans' (NFL fans') perceptions of each other, as well as winning and losing and how it affects fan behavior. As a part of this, I have decided that I could get much better feedback from NFL fans online than I could ever get from a room full of college students rushing through a survey for class points.
"Therefore, I would like to ask you to assist me by providing a hyperlink to my online study and simply mentioning my study on your blog. Please understand this is non-profit, academic research that will be used for my dissertation, and then potentially journal articles, book chapters and conference presentations. Please feel free to browse (or even take) the questionnaire yourself. I would genuinely appreciate your support and want to thank you for your time."

Let him review a few battles between Jet fans over the last few weeks. If he really wants to get an idea stayed tuned over the next 2 games if we lose the Rams game the blog might blow up....and the NE always gets everyones blood boiling."

And you for publishing the blogs, critical or not, deserve the fan's compliments because feedback is very important and the coaching staff is to be praised for not letting the Bills get their game plan established. A great road win. Thanks guys! Don't let up with St. Louis and blitz, blitz and blitz QB Bolger."

They have a great TV system that allows you to pick your game and listen to it on portable speakers right in front of you in the bar areas and tables around the bar. They have great drink and meal deals during the game and youcan bounce around to rival games during commercials...contintued"

Ira Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 7:01am EDT"Knew something was up with harris. He hasn't been right all year making very few impact plays even though he was making tackles. Just hope he is only out those 2-3 weeks as reported and will be back as ASAP.Glad we have Bowens and lets see which other LB will step up his play."

Thu, November 6, 2008 - 8:25am EDT"Uncle Joe agree with some of your theories about Chad .. Definitely was true when with the jets ,, But if he stands up & gets them 2 the playoffs without the wild cat & maybe beat us .. Wondering what u will think then ?"
MikeMc Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 9:57am EDT"BigAl, we are in control of our own destiny at this point. The dolphins are exciting to watch, but I feel unless they come up with a new wrinkle in this wildcat-O they will fade as the season wears on. The dollfans had it tough last year so cut them a little slack Big Al, until the last week of the season of course. Hey they've helped us beating NE,SD &Den, maybe there is more help ahead."
Ira Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 10:58am EDT"Give Bowens some credit. he is always making some type of impact play. Sack,PD,QP, or FR he is always around the ball. Problem is to not overwork him. Really don't want him playing more then 30-35 snaps per game. The staff will figure it out. others will have to step up their game. GO JETS!!!!!"
Xavion Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 11:30am EDT"I wonder why every one is just now noticing the "Wild Cat" and why Now it is all the rage? We have been doing it for 3 years ever since we drafted Brad Smith. Before the Draft I said I wanted Gholston but if not him Mcfadden Because he was Brad Smith 2.0 and ran so much of the wild cat in ARK. Hey Randy any info On How many plays we have run out of the wild cat format? "
Randy Lange Said:
"Xavion, I only recall charting it once this year with Brad Smith getting the first down on a 5-yard run at Oakland. Last season Leon Washington took three direct snaps and Brad Smith took five snaps when the QB (Chad Pennington or Kellen Clemens) was lined up as a receiver. "
jet jeff Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 11:50am EDT"randy , I think the jets need to get some pass attempts down the field a little more instead of at the line of scrimmage or 5 yards beyond or teams are going to really start lining that up . what do you think??? "
Randy Lange Said:
"I feel strongly both ways, jet jeff."
Tom Spicer Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 12:34pm EDT"If the Jets beat the Rams this week I think the Pats beat the Bills @ home & next week Jets @ Pats both 6 & 3 with 1st place on the line winner is 7 & 3 everyone else at best is 6 & 4 IT DOES NOT GET ANY BIGGER THAN THAT"
Drew Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 12:58pm EDT"We need Jenkins to continue to play at his All-Pro status. He completely hides the fact that Bowens is a liability. He plays hard and can get to the QB from OLB but is a huge downgrade from Harris in the middle. He has real trouble in space and will get eaten alive by TE's/RB's. We might be able to get by the Rams but the Pats will be all over this issue. Where's Matt Chatam these days??"
Frank Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 1:58pm EDT"Sorry guys but Harris was not playing like he was last year before he went down and has clearly been bothered with the injury since training camp. Bowens played a heck of a game last week and the D did not suffer at all. I say we rotate him with Murrell who had a great preseason and deserves some playing time and that will keep Bowens fresh. Matt Chatham? Drew you can't be serious."
HOGAN Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 2:33pm EDT"gotta agree with frank. Hopefully the surgery will get Harris back to his old form."
MikeMc Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 2:44pm EDT"Spicer, Lets not take the Rams for granted, haven't we learned looking ahead is dangerous territory."
MikeMc Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 2:51pm EDT"Frank I agree Harris has not been the same , hamstring early & now groin issues. Bowens did not start out great he lost containment on that big play from Lynch & it was his blown assignment on the Fine TD, not Elam. I do feel comfortable with him though, & he played well as the game wore on. I dont know what Drew is thinking with Chatham though.Lets not look past the Rams, Drew."
uncle joe Said:
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 2:56pm EDT"Sorry Drew,I'm with Frank 100%.Chatam was disgusting.Love Murrel but does he play Middle?Does Trusnik play middle?Jets loved him before he got hurt.I think Bowens plays well and has a big play in every game and What About Cummings?Get him some playing time against the Rams.We also got Spencer."

Thu, November 6, 2008 - 3:52pm EDT"It was about this time last year when Vilma was put on the IR. I hope they don't do what they did to Vilma to Harris, one mistake is enough. For the prediction: very high scoring passing game Jets 34, Rams 31. We might lose this one, but I think we can win. Holt will have a break-out game and Avery will be in check. ST's will be huge! Miller has to factor of D or it will get ugly fast. Go Jets!!"

Thu, November 6, 2008 - 11:21pm EDT"Mikey Mc unless you heard differently I believe Elam blew the coverage on Fine you gonna tell me our ILB (Bowens) was left alone to defend the left side of the endzone with no saftey help. Elam was doubling underneath and on the right side on a crossing pattern...ah I don't think so."
Drew Said:
Fri, November 7, 2008 - 6:34am EDT"Obviously my Matt Chatam joke was completely missed by my fellow bloggers.........I hated Matt Chatam. I thought you guys would remember that. LOL My point was the Rams game in my mind is a must. Not looking past them but on a short week the Patriots will be all over the fact that Bowens struggles in coverage. I did think he did a pretty good job though."
Drew Said:
Fri, November 7, 2008 - 12:09pm EDT"Elam screwed up the TD play.....Bowens screwed up the Lynch screen. Bowens did a decent job in the Bills game. Royal was starting to beat Bowens regulary in the 2nd half though......I believe B-Schott is going to open up the offense with Favre against the Rams. I would run the ball all day but I think he wants to get Favre going. He saw what Warner did against them last week. Note....RUN THE BALL!"
Randy Lange Said:
"Has anyone considered the possibility that neither Bowens nor Elam was responsible for the coverage on Trent Edwards' touchdown pass to Derek Fine?"
MikeMc Said:
Fri, November 7, 2008 - 2:56pm EDT"Frank yes I did hear differently on that Fine TD, I originally thought it was Elam also. I can't remember who said it but it was reliable, maybe Randy will know, I think it was Mangini in his wed news conference."
Drew Said:
Fri, November 7, 2008 - 4:07pm EDT"No Randy....I never considered anyone else. I will never blame Rhodes and the TE was grossly wide open. I will blame Elam....LOL"

Frank Said:
Fri, November 7, 2008 - 7:59pm EDT"Okay Randy you blew the coverage. He was so wide open I thought he was going to put out a lawn chair and crack open a cold one while he waited."
