08/28 — The Jets and Eagles, who closed the preseason against each other the previous seven summers, have less than a half-hour before they kick off against each other at Lincoln Financial Field in South Philly this evening.

And it would be truthful to say that the Jets' first-teamers, led by Brett Favre are on the field and in uniform.

Similarly, the Philadelphia firsts, led by Donovan McNabb, have also been warming up on their end of the turf.

But that's normal, and that will be as far as it goes. Neither team is expected to put any frontliners on the field when the game starts at 6:30, just as they haven't since 2005.

Favre, in fact, was loosening up with his fellow QBs on the sidelines. Secondary coach Jerome Henderson threw a ball back to Favre that almost bounced off his helmet, except that assistant D-line coach Bryan Cox was there for the "interception."

And No. 4 threw some half-speed slingshots to his receivers during the half-speed team drills.

Meanwhile, members of the first-team defense were jumping out to cover wide receivers as they did some individual pass-catching drills. That led to the sight of 360-pound NT Kris Jenkins hustling out to "cover" Brad Smith. Smith easily shook Jenkins' coverage and caught a rainbow from Brett Ratliff.

The Jets are wearing their green jerseys and white pants, while the Eagles will be in their white jerseys and green pants. With all the green, as one Jets observer said when the players were warming up only in their shorts and T-shirts, "It's hard to tell the teams apart."

The weather is expected to darken up and soak the greens in both teams' unis. Rain is expected during the game, which later could include heavy storms that are at the moment moving northward from the Washington, D.C., area.

Final prekickoff note: Favre is on the field and still in uniform, but he's wearing his baseball cap, and Kellen Clemens, who will start for the Jets at QB, is resting on the bench, while Brett Ratliff and Erik Ainge are warming up. Meanwhile, McNabb is wearing his backward baseball cap and Kevin Kolb is limbering up.

"More predictions: We get two years from Favre....then Ratliff becomes the starter for the next 12 years....These guys just don't seem to step up for Clemens the way they do for Ratliff."

"Please clear this up. Jets trade Vilma to NO for conditional pick in '09 draft that could be a #2. NO trades #2 in '09 to NYG for Shockey. What happens if Vilma reaches the conditions entitling the Jets to a #2 pick. As far as I know, NO only has one pick to trade. And what did the Jets get from Denver for Robertson? What are the conditions and compensation escalations involved?"

"Victor, the Jets have not released conditions of the picks so I can't clear it up. But there has been reporting out of New York, New Orleans and Denver that have provided details of the trades, according to the reporters' sources."
