File Under: Chad Pennington, Darrelle Revis, Chris Baker, Mike Nugent, Kellen Clemens, Wallace Wright, Jason Pociask, Brett Ratliff, David Ball, Bubba Franks

08/05 — In the last training camp practice before the first preseason game, the Jets were hitting their stride and holding onto the leather.

WR Wallace Wright had a couple of nice catches, both from Kellen Clemens. One came on a zinger off a rollout. The second went to the back of the end zone, with Wright hanging on as he was thrown close to the playclock just off the back corner.

Not to be outdone, Chris Baker, who returned to practice only Monday, had his best catch of camp, this one from Chad Pennington. It was a patented C-Bake one-handed grab, with the tight end quickly securing the ball with his off hand.

Only problem with the play: Eric Barton, continuing his quiet summer of strength, would've gotten the sack as he penetrated and ran past the red-shirted No. 10.

Pennington tried to thread another ball to Baker in the end zone after that, but safety Eric Smith read the play and broke it up.

Darrelle Revis also made a good breakup of a ball intended for another good-hands TE, Bubba Franks.

Two more Clemens completions of note: He looked left, then came back to yet another TE, Jason Pociask, who continued his good recent uptick by latching onto another "touchdown" on a 15-yard completion.

And Brett Ratliff found WR David Ball in the end zone, with Ball making the leaping, sure-handed grab he's been known to make.

Pennington had a couple of nice completions, to Brad Smith in traffic and to Jerricho Cotchery for the inside-the-5 TD pass, sandwiched around an intentional incompletion as pressure came up the middle in the form of the Jets' Mr. Big, NT Kris Jenkins. The dead ball bounced up to Jenkins, who caught it and punted it back toward the end zone. Not a good idea in a game, of course, but OK in this setting.

Erik Ainge got another turn toward the end of the short (1 hour, 53 minutes) single session. Chased by Cody Spencer on the blitz, Ainge retreated, then found Dustin Keller for the quick flip to get out of danger. And No. 9 found No. 48 — that's yet another TE, A.J. Schable — for a nice gainer over the middle.

In between, an Ainge pass went through WR David Clowney's hands for a drop. How do I know it was a drop? Because Clowney administered "the clap" afterward. Anytime a player claps once at himself after a play, there's a real good chance he felt he should've made the play.

Mike Nugent finished with a flourish. Thumping field goals at the regulation posts on the east end of the Hofstra soccer stadium's grass field, Nugent went 7-for-7, finishing with a pair of 44-yarders.

The Jets on the sideline with Sal Alosi at today's practice included Shaun Ellis, David Harris, Clint Oldenburg, Jesse Chatman and James Trusnik. And the ex-Jet on the sideline with all the reporters was Marty Lyons, who of course will be handling the radio analysis alongside Bob Wischusen's play-by-play on 1050 ESPN New York and WABC-AM 770 from Cleveland on Thursday.

Marty will also be one of the members of our new, expanded blogosphere under the Radar logo on newyorkjets.com. We'll tell you more about those plans in the coming weeks.

"PGN, I completely agree with you. I don't think Mr. T understands what this does to Jets fans, coaches. What it tells me is that one player was bigger then an organization, according to Mr. T. I would like to see a high powered scoring offense with receivers finishing routes. Schottenheimer, you have a lot of work to do, get to it. Brett, good luck as a Jet! No 40 Attemps per game! BALANCE!"

"So what is happening with WR David Ball? Has he played in any of the pre-season games? If not, why not? Will he make the team?"
