File Under: Chad Pennington, Darrelle Revis, Justin Miller, Laveranues Coles, Kellen Clemens, Wallace Wright, Brett Ratliff, Kareem Brown, Vernon Gholston, Calvin Pace

06/06 — This afternoon's practice, the final workout of the Jets' full-squad minicamp, featured the catch of the camp plus an uprising from the first defense.

The catch was turned in by Laveranues Coles on a 7-on-7 pass from Chad Pennington. Coles and CB Justin Miller had some substantial but incidental contact (no flag was thrown), with Miller going down and Coles stumbling coming out of the contact — and sticking out his right hand to make a right-handed, one-handed grab.

From there Coles zigzagged his way downfield to get past deep help Eric Smith and continue on his way to the score.

The plays by the first D were almost equally impressive.

CB Darrelle Revis made a couple of fine efforts on Pennington throws to Wallace Wright. On the first, Revis was all over Pennington's under-pressure throw for the smothering PD. On the second, Wright could the quick hitter but No. 24 was all over him and wouldn't let him get away, grabbing a handful of jersey and taking him out of bounds.

And there were some outstanding pass rushes that would have resulted in sacks, if there were tackling at this minicamp. LB Calvin Pace had a couple of pressures of Pennington, rookie LB Vernon Gholston — still getting help from teammates in lining up in only his second full-squad practice — put some heat on Kellen Clemens in forcing an off-target throw, and DE Kareem Brown stepped up with a big pressure to force a KC throwaway.

With owner Woody Johnson on hand for a second day of practice-watching, the session ended with two-minute work. Actually, there was 1:44 left and the offense trailed, 28-20, when the drive started deep in minus territory. Pennington and the first offense could only get to midfield before one last Stanford-band play got the ball to the 20 but no closer as the play was whistled dead with time expired.

Then QB Brett Ratliff, getting some work with the twos today, stepped in for Clemens on the next 1:44 drive (much as he replaced Pennington with the twos at the end of the morning practice) and getting the offense to first-and-goal at the defense's 5 with 10 seconds to left on pass on two completions to WR Chansi Stuckey sandwiched around a long completion to WR David Clowney.

But the drive ended not with a bang but a whimper — a Ratliff long scramble, during which he might've gotten sacked, but hitting WR Chris Davis just across the goal line for the TD, but having the play nullified by an offensive hold.

Ben Graham was up and down on his regular punting but nailed some outstanding end-over-end drop punts. Mike Nugent hit two field goals under 53 yards but missed three from 53 or longer.

Saturday's schedule hasn't been made public, although the players are done with practices until training camp opens in late July. And I do anticipate making one more filing, whether it's a news story or a Radar entry, sometime Saturday afternoon.

Keller's a Catch on Jets Nation

First-round TE Dustin Keller, who had a strong morning practice and added another nifty reception in the afternoon on a high-and-behind throw from Kellen Clemens, will be the featured player on Jets Nation on SportsNet New York, which first airs Saturday at noon.

"I'm with Cedric and Denzil, we should all be on the same page here and should be nothing but supportive of Mangini and our beloved Jets. It's cool to disagree with each other on some topics but not to do so in a mean spirited way. This season is going to be great, I can't wait to watch us sweep the Pats and repeatedly put Brady on his back with our relentless pass rush! Go Jets!!!!!!!"

"Giovanni, Baker is still showing up to mandatory ota's or whatever they are called. He is still here, the weird part is, they signed two TE's to replace him or for an unforseen reason. I mean if two people were hired to replace you, wouldn't you at least be like "what's going on here, I performed last year?" The first round rookie is going to make more then him."
