04/26 — It's only 10 minutes per first-round pick in this year's draft, but the Green & White used nine-plus minutes before making their choice with the No. 6 pick. Once the boos for "New England is on the clock," Commissioner Goodell came to the podium at Radio City Music Hall and announced, "OK, Jets fans..." When Goodell announced Vernon Gholston of Ohio State as the Jets' choice, the draftnik mezzanine erupted, but in a good way. And soon some chants broke out: "VER-non GHOL-ston!" Thus the Jets accomplished everything with one pick. They added the player many draft experts had linked them with for the last several months. They took a potential top pass rusher for the defense they've been building with the additions of LB Calvin Pace and DT Kris Jenkins. They kept Gholston away from the Patriots. And with Gholston and his family having just left the stage to do the multitude of media stops fopr the rest of this day, it was just announced that the Pats traded their No. 7 pick to New Orleans. I'll report back when I catch up with Gholston, either at SNY's next-door studios or at the Jets draft day party at Dave & Buster's in Times Square.

"FOrgive me if this issue has already been discussed, but I just couldn't sit through all 104 posts, but can someone (Mr. T. or Mr. Mangini, especially, if you're reading) explain to me what the point of bringing Calvin Pace in if we were going to draft Gholston. It's not like either one can play DE in a 3-4, so now we are stacked at Will, but what does that mean for Bryan Thomas? "

"Dan 47, Mike Tannenbaum said in his ESPN interview this morning: "We feel Vernon is a complete player. He had 22½ sacksat Ohio State, 30½ tackles for loss. We saw him stop the run and also drop into coverage. So with Bryan Thomas, Calvin Pace and David Bowens, we like the depth at outside linebacker.""

"Gholston was about the only thing we did right this draft, a no brainer. I thought we reached with Keller. I heard a rumor that we were going to make a move on Flacco till the Ravens took him. At least we could have had a QB with an arm cause Ainge certainly doesn't have one. There were several other CB's and WR's many people had ranked higher then the one's we picked. Trade Down=Nowhere."
