File Under: Darrelle Revis, Denise Garvey, Jake Long, Leodis McKelvin, Peter King, Pete Prisco

03/24 — A few new mock drafts came in over the weekend, from two big-name NFL writers. And two new names were finally mentioned as possible landing spots for the Jets with their sixth overall pick.

Peter King, my good friend from Sports Illustrated and si.com, actually has a few Jets-related items in his Monday Morning Quarterback column, in particular commenting on the possibility of GM Mike Tannenbaum trading down and on one thing he likes about the signing of DT Kris Jenkins.

As for King's new name, he does a mini-mock of the top 10 picks in the draft and has the Jets taking ... Michigan OT Jake Long! As Peter says in explaining his scenario, Long "probably won't" last until No. 6, but "funny things happen in unpredictable drafts like this one."

Over at CBSSportsline.com, Pete Prisco doesn't do a full mock but rather predraft breakdown of the AFC East. One of his categories for each of the four division rivals is "Possible Prospects." For the Jets, Prisco mentions the usual suspects, Ohio State OLB Vernon Gholston and Arkansas RB Darren McFadden, but also a third name: Troy CB Leodis McKelvin.

If that were to come about, it would pair with last year's tradeup for Darrelle Revis to mark the first time ever that the Jets took first-round corners in back-to-back drafts. In fact, the Green & White have picked only five first-round DBs in their draft history:

 Year Player College Overall
1970 CB Steve Tannen Florida 20th
 1973 S Burgess Owens Miami 13th
 1984 S Russell Carter SMU 10th
 1994 CB Aaron Glenn Texas A&M 12th
2007 CB Darrelle Revis Pitt 14th

We'll have our own snapshot of the AFC East for you, a two-part series by Real Football Services that will run Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Coles Checks In

Confirming stories in the New York Daily News and the Newark Star-Ledger, WR Laveranues Coles reported Monday to begin participating in the Jets' off-season strength and conditioning program.

Garvey Takes Flight Again

Early-bird followers of the Jets Flight Crew will be interested to know that Denise Garvey, the crew's director, is set to do a call-in interview with Scott and Todd on WPLJ-FM 95.5 at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.

"I met a former NY Jet player that was cut in the 2007 pre-season. He is looking to get picked-up in the NFL as a free agent. He told me that coach M! is tough and does not play around. He is very demanding mentally and physically. I think we will have an awsome year regardless of our draft picks. The draft will only help us out! GO JETS"

"I STILL BELIVE THAT IF GHOLSTON IS THERE AT #6 WE GOT TO GET HIM,IF NOT WE GOT TO TRADE DOWN AND GET A WR,CB,AND AQB IN THE 2SD ROUND,LIKE JOE FLACOO."

"Lets be real here, the Jets have some big needs on both sides of the ball, but mostly offensive. WR, OL, RB, QB. Coles is a solid starter but lacks big play mentality while other WRs are nothing better than #3 WRs. The OL is young but through free agency they filled some big holes. I would look for the Jets to take Jake Long if available and move D'Brick to RT. We need a better compliment to TJ at"
