02/11 — Several years ago, as your garden variety Jets beatwriter, I stumbled across a TV show on WCBS-TV on an autumn Sunday morning, "Jets 24/7." What might this be? I wondered, not expecting much.

I expected wrong. The show was exceptional, combining game highlights with never-before-seen Jets locker room footage — pregame, halftime, postgame — exclusive comments from the head coach and players, and well-done features, often many miles away from the Jets' training complex on the big-name Jets. I was hearing strong quotes and stories I hadn't heard during the week, seeing things I hadn't picked up on at practices.

Executive producer Bill Zagger and his B-Train Films production company were and continue to be the powers behind "24/7" as well as the animated Saturday morning show "Generation Jets," and I'm not the only one who thinks they're good.

Last week Zagger and crew received two more nominations in this year's 51st annual New York Emmy Awards: the Sept. 10, 2006, airing of "Jets 24/7 with Eric Mangini" (on the morning of Mangini's first game as Jets head coach) in the Sports Programming: Program Series category, and the Dec. 2, 2006, "Generation Jets" show on Governors Island in in two categories, Education Programming and Children's Programming.

"Providing our fans with distinctive and interesting programming has been the driving force behind our expanded television program offering," Bob Parente, Jets vice president of broadcasting and production, said this afternoon. "Nominations in five different categories affirms that we are accomplishing this goal."

"Most important, the Emmy nominations affirm that we're doing a good job," Zagger said. "And obviously it's a great working relationship with the Jets."

SportsNet New York also picked up a pair of nominations for some green and white programming. The April 28, 2007, airing of "Jets Nation: Draft Day 2007" in the Sports Programming: Special category, and, less than a month later, a "Darrelle Revis Profile" on Jets Nation in Sports Programming: Program Feature/Segment. Will O'Toole was the producer for both pieces.

Here is the Jets' scorecard from the previous three years at the NY Emmys:

2005

Jets 24/7 with Herman Edwards. Sports Programming: Series. Nominee and winner.

Generation Jets. Children's Programming. Nominee and winner.

Generation Jets. Sports Programming: Series. Nominee.

2006

Generation Jets. Children's Programming. Nominee and winner.

2007

Generation Jets. Sports Programming: Series. Nominee.

Now that the nominations are in, we wait, just like for the Oscars and the national Emmys. This year's awards gala will be held Sunday, April 6, at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Here's wishing the best for B-Train and SNY. And while we're at it, here's wishing for an award-filled off-season of work, a trophy-case draft and free agency period, and a winning 2008 season right behind it.

"long time Jets Fan we are a complete joke! If the highlight of our season is one of our cheerleaders going to the pro bowl, we all need to find a new team! Rebuilding since 1969 is not working anymore, spend the darn money like the rest of the league and bring the JETS a Super Bowl win (by the way did you see the Giants win it for the 3rd time since the last time we won it) Embarrasing"

"Michael, I'm glad at least one person agrees with me that we should pick Desean Jackson Jr. As for Mike's comment, I am completely sure no defense in the league is going to be "Scared" of a rookie QB, especially Brian Brohm. Just take a look at the facts on previous 1st round QB selections. Suggs is not needed, we just need to play with more fire utilizing our newer scheme."

"Alot of debate on who we should draft and go after in FA. Bottom line is whoever we draft or get in FA, NEEDS ARE BIG SKILLED OFFENSIVE LINEMAN & THE SAME FOR THE DEFENSIVE LINE. PRESSURE OPPOSING QB A MUST. GAMES ARE WON AND LOST ON THE O & D LINE. PERIOD. MANAGEMENT BETTER NOT BLOW IT. TIRED OF JETS PLAYING 2ND FIDDLE TO GIANTS & REST OF LEAGUE."
