12/09 — Darrelle Revis gets some more higher education on Cleveland's first drive of the second half. The Jets' rookie corner is victimized on Derek Anderson's 45-yard hookup to Braylon Edwards to the Jets 5, then two plays later on a back-shoulder pass that the 6'3" Edwards plucks away from the 5'11" Revis. And suddenly, 2½ minutes into the new half, it's ...

Browns 14, Jets 3

The Green & White get a first down on a nice one-handed gather by Brad Smith from Kellen Clemens, but then fizzle. Not nearly enough offense so far today against the NFL's last-place team in yards and points allowed. Ben Graham's next punt is another drop punt fair-caught by Joshua Cribbs at the Cleveland 20. Not an I-20 but still OK in keeping Cribbs penned up.

Cleveland gets a first down but then Bryan Thomas comes up with a couple of plays on defense. First he takes on the strong side of the Browns line and takes down Jamal Lewis for a yard loss, then he pressures Anderson into an incompletion. Finally Hank Poteat takes down Kellen Winslow out of the nickel.

The Browns punt, and Leon Washington rips off a 20-yard return to set the Jets up at their 34 midway through the quarter. And Clemens throws a blitz-beater to Thomas Jones, who motors 13 yards to midfield. Then Chris Baker goes 14 yards before being upended by Sean Jones.

The Jets seem to stall again at the visitors' 34 — Chris Baker isn't happy with LB Leon Williams' pass coverage on third-and-8 and CBS' Dick Enberg asks rhetorically, "How is that not pass interference?" But Clemens goes to Coles on fourth-and-8 and Coles guts it out again, this time diving for the stick and converting the first down.

Even though Clemens administers another effective stiffarm, this one on LB D'Qwell Jackson on a scramble to the 23, the Jets still can't find the end zone. So Mike Nugent comes on for a 41-yard field goal toward the East end zone, often evil but today not offering any windy resistance, so at least the Jets make it a one-score game, albeit a score that will need a two-point conversion for the tie.

Browns 14, Jets 6

The Jets defense is back to its pass-rush problems, no sacks of Derek Anderson. Shaun Ellis nearly gets Anderson on a nickel blitz, but the tall Cleveland QB who so far is outdueling fellow Oregonian Kellen Clemens, gets a 7-yard pass to Joe Jurevicius on third-and-5. And the third quarter ends with the Brownies driving past midfield.

"Looks like another great job on half-time adjustments by our coaching staff!! Give up a TD 2 1/2 minutes in and still no offense. Where is Walt Michaels when you need him. Is it really that much better than when we had Rich Kotite. Everyone says we have loads of talent either they are sadly mistaken or our coaching stinks. I warned not to get excited about the fin game. "
