File Under: thanksgiving, Chad Pennington, Kellen Clemens, Tony Romo

11/22 — Happy Thanksgiving, y'all.

The Jets will soon be heading for the stadium with the hole in the roof so God can look down on his team, and they'll be trying for their second straight upset, this time deep in the heart of Texas. It won't be easy, and if a victory does come, I would venture to guess it will be in a shootout.

The Cowboys may have some defensive vulnerabilities, but their offense can quickly make up for them. One of the databases I have maintained since 1997 is on QB drive stats for the entire NFL. It's a Bill Parcells-inspired pursuit based on his view that the best way to measure quarterbacks, besides the number of rings they win, is by how well they get their offenses in the end zone.

And Tony Romo is doing that sensationally well for the 'Pokes. His 34.3 percent TD drive percentage rate in most seasons would be the runaway leader among all qualifying QBs. The trouble this season, of course, is that this isn't like most seasons. Tom Brady and the Patriots have an unconscious 51.4 percent TD drive rate after his 7-for-7 performance at Buffalo.

For Jets fans, Chad Pennington's TD rate this season is 17.3 percent, Kellen Clemens' is 8.2 (only three TD drives but eight FGs), and the NFL average is 18.6.

Here's a little Turkey Day hors d'oeuvre for you, the unofficial top 10 TD drive rates among all QBs with at least 100 drives in a full regular season since '97:

Year QB, Team Pct. Year QB,Team Pct.
2004 Peyton Manning, IND 37.6 2005 Peyton Manning, IND 31.9
2000 Kurt Warner, STL 36.1 2005 Matt Hasselbeck, SEA 31.7
2001 Kurt Warner, STL 32.3 1998 Randall Cunningham, MIN 31.2
2004 Trent Green, KC 32.2 2006 Peyton Manning, IND 30.8
1999 Kurt Warner, STL 32.0 2003 Trent Green, KC 30.6

Despite Dallas' perilous proficiency on offense, the Jets seem to be in a good place here, and I don't mean just in their Irving, Texas, hotel. Many Jets hung out in the lobby before and after their meetings Wednesday night, and early on owner Woody Johnson, wearing his New York Titans hat, schmoozed with the fans in green and white.

And the players got a nice boost with a visit from a player who used to be one of their own. Ray Mickens, the former Jets cornerback who calls Dallas home, dropped by the hotel looking great and wearing his trademark smile. "I'm just here to say hello to some of my old teammates," said Big Play Ray.

The weather today is similar to the weather when we arrived Wednesday evening, a lot like New Jersey in November — chilly and windy. In fact, the breezes were so blustery as I went out for my walk around that I thought I was onto a meteorological scoop when I heard a report on my radio — rain turning to snow, 1 to 3 inches by morning — and heard a reference to Gang Green.

But no, I actually was listening to WBBM from Chicago, whose signal was racing south off the ionosphere, over the plains, to my Texas location a thousand miles away, and the gangrene was being suffered by an outdoorsman in Minnesota.

Wednesday night in Big D, the winds were gusting up to 25 mph. Today the forecast is for winds 10 to 20 mph and 52 degrees. Kellen Clemens, Ben Graham and Mike Nugent should feel right at home in these Meadowlands-like conditions.

To celebrate Thanksgiving, I had the Texas babyback barbecue ribs last night. Today it'll be stadium food. What a way to spend the holiday. But who can complain when in a few hours we'll be playing Turkey Day football for the nation. I'll check back with a short pregame Radar entry.

"The weather/wind won't be as much a help as Dallas' attitude. Phillips' seems to be the only person in Dallas taking us seriously. From what I've read this week, I see the NYJ treating this as their Superbowl. 49-42 JETS!!!!"
