File Under: Eric Mangini, Thomas Jones, David Harris, Shaun Ellis

11/20 — At first, I was wondering where the love was for the Jets following their win over the Steelers. Late that night, the guys on Sirius NFL Radio didn't seem to be too fired up over the major victory, and even one of the New York TV stations showed Jets highlights only after they put up Giants-Lions and Cowboys-Redskins footage.

But while the Jets, as head coach Eric Mangini said, "put the Steelers game to bed" Monday morning due to the short week leading up to Thanksgiving Day in Dallas, we all are allowed to bask in the win a little longer. And so are the folks at nfl.com and the sponsors of their weekly awards, who recognized four Jets as nominees for their contributions in Week 11 games.

Mangini was one of the three candidates for the Motorola NFL Coach of the Week award. One of the secrets to the 19-16 rocking of SteelerWorld was going to the archives for how the Jets handled last year's bye week heading into their 17-14 triumph at New England. "I just looked up last year's bye-week schedule," Mangini told the CBS crew before the game, "and did exactly the same things this year." It worked as the Jets defeated an opponent that came into the game with a record at least six wins better than theirs for only the fifth time in franchise history and the first time since 1992.

Jacksonville's Jack Del Rio and Tampa Bay's Jon Gruden are the other coaches in the running. You can vote for the Coach of the Week here.

Three new nominees for the rushing portion of the FedEx Air & Ground award are on this week's slate, including, of course, Thomas Jones. On Monday Jones reiterated how important yards after first contact were vs. Pittsburgh's fast, hard-hitting defense, and he showed it with a better YAFC game than even his Philadelphia performance. I'll let you know what my numbers show tomorrow when I'm en route to Dallas with the team.

The other RBs up for this award are Earnest Graham of the Buccaneers and Chester Taylor of the Vikings. Here's where you can find the FedEx Air & Ground polling booth.

Shaun Ellis had one of the most versatile and forceful performances of his eight-year Green & White career, and that has led him into the field of five vying for the GMC Defensive Player of the Week award.

The Big Katt, pouncing from a three-point stance as well as from his new linebacker post, was a part of three sacks (one solo, two split). All three came on third down, and his final one also resulted in a strip-sack of Big Ben, a fumble recovery and a 6-yard return to end a Steelers drive in Jets territory.

Ellis' competitors for this honor are Seattle DE Patrick Kerney, Cleveland FS Brodney Pool, Arizona CB Antrel Rolle and Green Bay DT Corey Williams. Cast your vote here if you love great defense.

And for the third week in a row, LB David Harris has been up for the Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Week award. Against the Steelers, Harris was credited with 11 tackles and the early 17-yard sack of Ben Roethlisberger, which I'm guessing is one of the longest sacks in franchise history.

I'm guilty of electioneering here, but in the early exit polling, Harris is leading this field that also includes Buccaneers DE Gaines Adams, Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe, Dolphins WR-KR Ted Ginn Jr. and Vikings WR Sidney Rice. Go to this site to vote for your favorite rookie this week.

"That was the best game from Ellis since the Pittsburg playoff game a couple of years ago. D-Rob,Barton,Pouha and my boy Harris also dominated. I could care less if any of them win awards...if they keep playing that way the press will follow...I also want to wish all of my fellow Jet fans (Ira, Row, Uncle Joe etc..)and our leader Randy Lange a Happy Thanksgiving. Ira any predictions??"

"Harris looks great. D got much better. Could have scored more touchdowns over field goals and the game would have been over. Kellen looks to be the future. Like I said, This is the best 1-7 team out there, now there the best 2-8 team out there. Just beat the Cowboys and end the Pats perfect season and we will have salvaged a bad year."

"I still don't like Schotty, but he's starting to become creative. There were a few plays I really just said, "who makes that call?" It happens every game. But he's taking our advice and running the ball. Hopefully it continues. Rhodes is the player on the hot seat. I know Revis can hang with T.O. but safety help is key. I agree a game breaker at WR is key, that's why"
