File Under: draft, Trade, Mike Tannenbaum, Roger Goodell, Darrelle Revis, 2007 NFL Draft, Carolina Panthers

04/28 — The draft party at Dave & Buster's on 42nd Street in New York City was mellow. D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold were there, as were Leon Washington and Anthony Schlegel — New York Jets draft choices all a year ago this weekend. Leon and Wesley Walker, a Jets draft pick of another time, were signing autographs. Talk was of how far Brady Quinn was going to fall.

Then came "The Trade," and all the corners of D&B's erupted, not to mention certain green-clad sections of Radio City Music Hall nine blocks to the north.

Roars went up when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the trade — the Jets' own first-, second- and fifth-round picks for the Carolina Panthers' 14th overall pick and sixth-rounder. Chants of "J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!" went up as the Jets' 15 minutes ticked off the clock.

Finally, Goodell strode to the podium and announced, "With the 14th pick of the 2007 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select Darrelle Revis." And the "Yeahhhhhhhs" in both locales said it all: Green & White fans liked the pick.

In the immortal question of Bill Parcells, what's not to like? Many thought the Jets' biggest area of need was cornerback, despite the presence on the roster of Andre Dyson and all four players who started games at right corner opposite Dyson (Justin Miller, David Barrett, Hank Poteat and Drew Coleman).

Revis was a corner many thought fit the Jets perfectly but would be gone long before their 25th pick came up. He's a top cover corner from the University of Pittsburgh with sub-4.4 speed and a three-cone drill time of 6.56 — as nfl.com draft guru Gil Brandt will tell you, anything under 7.00 in the three-cone is excellent.

And according to our handy dandy trade value chart, the Jets and general manager Mike Tannenbaum made another good deal. Bearing in mind that the Jets use a different chart than the one available on various Web sites, the point value of the picks the Panthers gave up was 1111.8 while the value of the picks the Jets gave up was 1055.8. The Panthers could've tried to get another second-day pick in this deal but didn't.

For those fans at Radio City who thought they'd sit till 5 p.m. for their team's pick, for those Dave & Buster's partiers who thought the party would be over before the 25th pick, the day got off to a much quicker start than expected.
