10/28 — It's a beautiful day for the Jets-Bills game at the New Jersey Meadowlands, mostly sunny, temps in the upper 50s. The wind is a bit gusty, though, which could play havoc with the kicking games — and, with any luck for the Green & White, with the passes of rookie QB Trent Edwards, who is making his first NFL road start after three home starts at equally gusty Ralph Wilson Stadium.

The early Jets have come out to do their 100-yard stretch drills under the guidance of strength coach Sal Alosi, and the first dozen players out this afternoon have the appearance of stealth Jets. Most of them are dressed not in game uniforms yet but in black sweatsuits.

One of this early dozen is David Harris. The second-round rookie from Michigan showed no sign of nerves during the week at the possibility of replacing Jonathan Vilma in the starting lineup. And this afternoon, the day after Vilma was placed on IR, viewed through binoculars from above, Harris looks calm, cool and collected. Jets fans expect the same when he takes on fellow rookie RB Marshawn Lynch and the Bills offense in a short while.

TE Chris Baker, deactivated last week with a sore back, is active. Matt Chatham, moved from the Reserve/PUP list to the active roster Saturday after Vilma was shelved, is also active and will make his season debut for the Jets.

Also, two rookies — sixth-rounder OL Jacob Bender and free agent DE Mike DeVito — are active for the first time this season and should make their pro debuts on special teams if nowhere else.

Because the Jets have only 52 on their active roster, they list seven as inactive: CB Drew Coleman, FB Darian Barnes, OLs Will Montgomery and Adrian Jones, TE Jason Pociask, DT C.J. Mosley and third QB Marques Tuiasosopo.

The Bills' IAs are CB Ashton Youboty, RB Anthony Thomas, S Jim Leonhard, LB Leon Joe, TE Ryan Neufeld, WR Sam Aiken, DE Ryan Denney and third QB Gibran Hamdan.

Here are two conditional records that mean absolutely nothing. For one, the Jets are wearing their green jerseys and white pants, the same combo they wore only once before this season — for their only win, in fact, vs. Miami at the Meadowlands. Under coach Eric Mangini they are 5-4 in green/white.

And today's referee is Jerome Boger, in his second year as an NFL ref. This will be his fourth Jets game, and in the previous three the Jets are 3-0 — preseason wins vs. Washington and Philadelphia and last year's Game 3 triumph at Buffalo.

"Once again confused why Barnes is not active? It's a windy day in Jersey and we do not activate our thumper....I don't get it"

"I agree with Drew. We have no line, how 'bout using a fullback. I love Chad, but he really needs to sit before he gets our receivers killed. His arm is done after the injuries. I said that Harris was for real, but Vilma needs to stay, he's still a superstar. Coach to your players strengths with the 4-3 and Vilma on the outside. Give me two offensive lineman and the 4-3, we make the playoffs!"
