File Under: Marshawn Lynch, Karen Keyes, Radar Fanzone, comment, 3000th

09/25 — It's time to take a short break from football and give a plug for the Radar, which has been operating quite well since we started up right before the draft for one big reason: you.

It was on Aug. 9 that I revealed we had posted our 1,000th comment, which to me, a refugee of the not-at-all-well print media, was an impressive bit of reader/visitor contribution in the span of three-plus months.

Well, I'm blown away by the input since then. On my Miami postgame Radar entry, we posted our 3,000th comment, meaning 2,000 more were submitted in about six weeks' time. Needless to say, the increase has been driven by the start of the season, reporting on the videotaping incident, Chad Pennington's injury and return, Kellen Clemens' first NFL start, and the first three games of the season.

The defense is an obvious concern to many of you, as it was to Troy, the filer of our 3,000th comment that was appended to "Screens Are What We Need to Work On." Troy, who, in addition to casting a critical eye on the quality of the win over the Dolphins, asked, "Why doesn't Eric mix in a few 4-3 looks like he did at times last year where they moved Kimo inside with D-Rob and B. Thomas on the end opposite Ellis?"

Actually, the Jets did something like that against the Dolphins. You may have noticed several times in the base defense, BT put his hand in the dirt, DE Shaun Ellis or Eric Hicks hopped over into 1-technique, Dewayne Robertson was already in 3-technique, and voila! A 4-3 undershifted front. Unfortunately, the results of that look used a handful of times were mixed in slowing down Ronnie Brown. It could be more efficient for Marshawn Lynch and the Bills.

Troy, sorry, no prizes for being No. 3,000, but you and many others do have my undying gratitude for continuing to contribute regularly to the Radar.

As I was saying, I must be easily impressed because there are many bells and whistles and pings here on the newyorkjets.com site that keep amazing me. A lot of people here are putting a lot of thought and energy into new content all the time.

If you haven't checked out our video offerings, why not punch up one of the entries on the home page or click on the "Multimedia Home" link to see all the video we've been cueing up recently? Karen Keyes again is filing her exclusive, informative weekly reports and postgame interviews on JetsTV. And her interview with Joe Namath during the recent ESPN cruise has just gone up on the home page.

You can also explore our new feature, News Around the NFL. This page collects the RSS feeds from the league's various team sites so that you can keep up with your most favorite, or least favorite, teams and Jets opponents.

A click on Fanzone brings another regular feature you may not have known about. We've got neat videos on health and fitness tips put together by Jets head strength and conditioning coach Sal Alosi and his staff. The first two on the site are on warming up and pushups, two activities I could use a little more of.

Like what you see? Don't like what you see? Don't like what you don't see? Either on our site or on the field? Send in a comment at the end of one of the Radar entries and you can share your views with the multitude of Jets fans who have visited our site in record numbers.

Just keep in mind that if your comment contains obscenity, profanity, name-calling, personal attacks, libelous statements, bad taste, racism, sexism, etc., I'll be the only one reading it.

That's it for the promo. I'll be back tomorrow with Radar detection of the goings-on at Coach Mangini's news conference, inside the locker room and during media availability at practice as the Jets get ready to shuffle up to Buffalo and take on the battered but battling Bills on Sunday.

"This year has been like a gift for those who allways wished the Jets had a better site, as this web site has been much improved, and new blogs from Randy's Radar is something I look for daily. Thanks for your blog and for this great new site. P.S. The Flight Crew section is a nice addition to the site as well."

"Last time I checked we went 10-6 and made the playoffs last year. The fact is we have better linebackers than D-lineman and this is the system Mangini runs. Yes I know the problem with Vilma and the 3-4, maybe that's why they drafted Harris. He'll be ok. I want us to dominate on D as much as any fan of the Jets but I trust our coach. Let's drop the Bills this week and get our team rolling!!!"

"Yes, TNJets, I've assumed the "Three-Point" for four years (Pop Warner Seniors) and you are quite correct about the "Three-Four", it is quite an effective defense if you have a "Moose" at Nose-Tackle. You need the big guy who can penetrate the offensive line, at "Nose-Tackle". My complaint is not with the "3-4"per se. If you don't have "The Moose" at "Nose", you might as well suit-up "Steve Erkel"!"
