Lange is editor-in-chief of newyorkjets.com. He covered the Jets for 13 years for The Record of Hackensack, N.J.
File Under: John Abraham, C.J. Mosley, Bryan Cox, assistant defensive line coach
08/31 — People have always felt strongly both ways about Bryan Cox.
Back when Cox was playing, opposing teams and their fans swore at him while his teammates and coaches swore by him. Bill Parcells brought him to Hempstead in 1998 and his will was a large part of the reason the Jets made it to Denver and to within 30 minutes of a Super Bowl appearance.
And now in his second year as the Green & White's assistant defensive line coach, Cox is greeted by everybody — "Hey, B!" — and his voice can still be heard echoing around Weeb Ewbank Hall.
But he's still not universally embraced.
"Whenever you say 'B-Cox,' it's business. It's time to go to work," DT C.J. Mosley said following his big night in the 13-11 victory over the Eagles on Thursday.
Mosley got the tough-love treatment from Cox following his third sack of A.J. Feeley on that second Eagles drive. The coach called down from the coaches' booth to the sideline and it wasn't to read a congratulatory telegram.
"He said basically don't be satisfied, go out there and keep playing football," Mosley recalled. "He's been on me every day. That's him, his personality. He gets you fired up."
As an assistant assistant, Cox still can't chat with reporters, but if he could, he might say he sees something in Mosley that he's trying to bring out. And that certain something was on display as the 312-pound third-year man was barging past the likes of Eagles second-year center Nick Cole in dropping A.J. Feeley three times — the last time a Jet had more than three sacks in any game was when John Abraham notched 3.5 sacks of Donovan McNabb on this same Lincoln Financial Field pitch in the 2003 regular season.
"I don't think I've had a game like that my whole life," Mosley said. Not even in peewee football? "I didn't play peewees. I was sitting on my couch eating Twinkies back then."
If this is an awakening of Mosley's talent, it would be a tribute to GM Mike Tannenbaum trading for him in the Brooks Bollinger trade a year ago and to the coaching of D-line coach Dan Quinn and to Cox's Twinkie-trashing bedside manner.
Eleventh Heaven
To paraphrase Peter King, this is a statistic that may interest no one but me. In the first 929 games in Jets/Titans history, including preseason and playoff games, opponents didn't score 11 points in any of those games. In the last 11 games in franchise history, the other teams have scored 11 twice.
Both were Jets wins: by 26-11 over Houston last season and by 13-11 over the Eagles.
Driving Ambitions
There are many reasons for quarterback drive engineering statistics coming out the way they do, especially in preseason. Keeping that in mind, here are some drive stats for the Jets' four QBs this preseason:
| Quarterback | Drives | TDs | FGs | Punts | TOs |
| Chad Pennington | 14 | 1 | 2 | 7 | 2 |
| Kellen Clemens | 14 | 7 | 1 | 2 | 3 |
| Marques Tuiasosopo | 13 | 2 | 1 | 6 | 1 |
| Brad Smith | 7 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 1 |

It is not clear that Belichick made those comments....Peter King looks like he is making a joke by how high he ranked KerryRhodes and Peters from Buffalo. Randy what have you heard. I don't think his arm strong enough and I hope Mangini give Clemens his chance when it is time. Pennington got his chance when we had Vinny!!! "

Chad should start until he looses his job during the season. clemens will be prepared each week to take over the reins if need be. Chad has led us well while healthy.
