File Under: Brad Smith, Jerricho Cotchery, Rex Ryan, Braylon Edwards, Lito Sheppard, Oakland Raiders, Oakland Coliseum

10/23 — Rex Ryan had been optimistic all week about Jerricho Cotchery's availability for Sunday's game at the Raiders. But Cotchery still hadn't practiced at all in team drills this week.

So today, on an accelerated schedule before the Jets board buses this afternoon to get to Newark Liberty Airport and fly out to Oakland, Ryan said at his news conference that Cotchery, along with fellow WR Brad Smith and CB Lito Sheppard, will not play in this game.

"Jerricho, we feel it'd be best if he stays back and rehabs," Ryan said about Cotchery's hamstring, which limited him in the Monday night game at Miami and kept him out of Buffalo.

"I was hoping. I know he was getting better and all that. In the end, we definitely don't want this to be happening all the time, each week wondering if he's going to be up. If we can get him 100 percent or near 100 percent, that's the best option."

So the wideout lineup remains the same as it was for the Bills. Braylon Edwards and David Clowney will start, with Wallace Wright the third WR and Danny Woodhead available if needed.

There were a few Rex one-liners before he wrapped up his final news conference of the week. He was asked about Thomas Jones coming off his franchise-record-setting 210-yard game vs. the Bills. The text of those remarks will be available later today on newyorkjets.com in the coach's transcript, but Ryan had an interesting take on T.J.'s legendary physique:

"This man's in shape. You kidding me? It almost looks like he's upside down. The size of those arms, they should be on his legs."

On the Wildcat, Ryan said that even though they ran it last year some with Darren McFadden, McFadden is out for this game with a knee injury, and besides, "That's not really the Raiders. We're prepared for it, but I think there's more of a chance of you seeing us run it against them than vice versa."

As to a question about "what needs to happen" for the Jets on Sunday, he said, "What needs to happen is just find a way," adding about playing inside the notorious Oakland Coliseum, "It'll be a doozie. That's an interesting place to play. And Halloween's coming up."

"I made this comment a couple weeks ago. the injury report the media and fans see is not the truth. the real one is given to the team their playing.never hope a player is playing until you see him on Sunday."

"Okay, Gregg, stirring up trouble again, we should all read today's Daily News article about the Jets' new game plan. I didn't realize how EXACTLY similar MS's first 6 games are to other star QBs', forgot about Eli's 0.0 QB rating game, and had no idea that BR on PIT never threw more than 25 times a game in his rookie year. Might also note one Jet rolling his eyes when asked if he'd prefer KC. "
