File Under: training camp, Marty Lyons, Bob Wischusen, Eric Allen, Twitter, SUNY Cortland
07/28 — Cortland, New York, here we come.
The Green & White are beginning to come together. The rookies, first-year players and veterans coming off injuries are working here at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center (these sessions are closed to fans and media). Then the rest of the vets arrive and the team journeys up to SUNY Cortland in central New York State on Thursday to begin Rex Ryan’s first training camp as head coach.
As always, newyorkjets.com is planning blanket coverage, which of course won’t stop until the Jets’ season is over sometime early in 2010.
Eric Allen and I will be at Cortland on Thursday to report on the arrival of the players and to be ready for the first whistle of the first-two-a-day of camp around 8:15 a.m. Friday morning.
You’ll get feature stories on all the unfolding “Hot Topics” of camp — EA will conclude his feature with the top 10 topics today — plus blogs on all practices, summaries of all of Rex’s news conferences and reports and comments from the fans who are up there with us in Cortland, who are planning to make the trek, or are following the camp from back home, wherever home may be.
Audio? Eric and I will be hosting daily Jets Radio Web shows (call them “Two-Minute Drive: Summer Edition”) available each afternoon and featuring players, coaches and national and local reporters.
And you’ll get to hear the call of the Green & White practice at Cortland on Aug. 6 by the voices of the Jets, play-by-play man Bob Wischusen and analyst Marty Lyons, with contributions from EA and me. This practice will not be carried by any other radio/online outlet.
Video? We’ll have plenty from Rich Gentile and Ryann Ruzika in our multimedia department, plus segments from SNY, our broadcast partner, and NFL.com.
And there’s Twitter. Late Monday we just cleared 5,000 followers at http://twitter/nyjets — we’ve had a 6,000 percent increase in our followers since we began sending out highlights from the April veteran minicamp just 3½ months ago. Join the fun. We’ll be tweeting the big plays and developments from each and every practice of camp.
Assisting us at camp with the writing, interviewing and recording will be Kyle Richardson, who’s worked in the Jets media relations department and has written for bleacherreport.com, and Deborah Handy, our Cortland intern who’s done extensive work at the college radio station.
We’ve got a lot in store for you. Wherever you and your friends go for your Jets news, you need to stop by and see what we’ve got for you this summer. And summer is finally here.
And the Fan Line Number Is ...
Just a reminder that the Jets’ training camp fan line number is 973-549-4844. Each day the line will provide information on the next day’s practice times, Jets Fest and Jets Shop schedules and information in the event of inclement weather or practice changes. You can also find all this information on newyorkjets.com, and we will post all pertinent changes on Twitter as well.
Grab Your Seats
I’m hearing from the Jets ticket office that there is a limited number of season tickets available for the coming season. These seats are expected to be gone by the start of the season, but if you’re interested in this rare opportunity to see the 2009 Jets in action, go to newyorkjets.com/tickets.

Tue, July 28, 2009 - 1:47pm ET"Randy, Forget Twitter. The Radar is #1 and wonder what the post comments amount is up too?"
Randy Lange Said:
"Ira, we're at almost 40,000 posted comments (since the 2007 NFL Draft) but that may be off due to some back-end issues."

Tue, July 28, 2009 - 4:15pm ET"Randy, Are fridays practices in Cortland open to the public? Also , whats the facility like up there, are there bleachers, can you get close to the field, how does it compare to Hofstra? "
Randy Lange Said:
"Original, yes, all SUNY Cortland practices are open to the public, including the first two there on Friday. I haven't been on site yet but from the looks of things the Cortland facilities are comparable to Hofstra's, including stadium bleachers."

Tue, July 28, 2009 - 5:27pm ET"Ok Guy's I stand corrected Lito S should start opposite D Revis .. I am still sold on Kerry Rhodes & E Smith at safety with leonard & Taking bets lowery won't play a big part in Our D ..Maybe Rex will use him in Blitz Packages he can't cover any 1 sorry I call it the way I see it .. Why keep Smith & go after Leonard if hes the man for the job come on guy's Think about it "
Ira Said:
Tue, July 28, 2009 - 7:17pm ET"Condolences to the Johnson family.I still think Favre will play this year. I think there is a chance he pulls a Vinny off the couch middle of the season."

Tue, July 28, 2009 - 11:28pm ET"I am a huge Jet fan and sell ink to the local newspaper. I found the site and can tell everyone that the facility is much bigger than Hofstra and I think there will be more than enough room for everyone. The hotels are cheep and food is good. I drove by there today and my son and I will be going there for the afternoon pratice on Friday. Go Jets!"

Ira Said:
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 7:12am ET"See that Leon's agent and Mr. T will have a face to face meeting today. It serves no purpose for Leon to holdout or for the Jets not to sign him before Friday. It only hurts both sides. After having contract issues the past few years leading into camp its time to get this done. Both sides have to give a little and get this done. And i believe it get done today. Randy, You said Rex said no rain?"
Ira Said:
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 9:07am ET"ed, EA is a young and very talented writer. And his list of 25 questions i found to be a great read. Give me a break."
Randy Lange Said:
"Ira, thanks for the supportive comments. ed has shown himself to be a cranky, lonely man, full of insulting personal attacks, who has made his last comment on the Radar."

Wed, July 29, 2009 - 1:36pm ET"Vet, I actually side some of this with ya. Leonhard is not built like a safety. Smith will challenge and at least win have the playing time. I don't see much of a fit with Lowery, unless we have him cover Welker or something.. How much nickel does Rex use? Agree on EA, I enjoy his posts. "
Mike Jet Vet Said:
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 1:45pm ET" Wish I could make it to camps Practices & such this year I can't.. God help me moving to Fla I'm betting Rex isn't going to drop our Big LB's into coverages & go into prevent every time some1 completes a pass against us like Mangini did last season. Thank God for small miracles .. The problems I foresee us having is Mark- S -learning curve Punter & TE position we shall see very soon GO JETS "
Jaysun Said:
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 2:49pm ET"It's finally here. I'm glad you guys are keeping us informed through this sight. Local media only covers half of what really goes on in camp. Could be a good year for Gang Green. Go JETS!!!"

JB Said:
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 7:54pm ET"TJ should be ashamed or he's not very smart. After a mediocre first year, the Jets upgrade the OL at least 50% at great expense. His stats improve ~40% and he wants more money. Leon creates offense you can't buy. Make a deal."
Duaine Said:
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 9:09pm ET"Ed needs to learn how write and must be a NE fan thanks Randy for kicking him off !!! Good ridance. Lets go Jets be healthy and show them what u got this . Believe in each other and support each other and u all will succeed!!!!!! JETS JETS JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Thu, July 30, 2009 - 12:46am ET"I don't see what the concern about the passing game is .In pactice the receivers are getting open against defenders and the QB's are connecting with them.We also have Leon and Woodhead in the backfield and Keller too I really think we are a passing team..Not only T Owens and Plaxico can catch passes.Teams with far less talent have made the playoffs."
aaron Lloyd Said:
Thu, July 30, 2009 - 6:54am ET"I get that the Jets are coming home for a night practice on 8/12, a nice LI gesture. I just want to know what happened to the green and white game that was promised to stay at Hofstra, despite the fact that the team was leaving Hofstra and Long Island, it was a gesture of peace that I really looked forward to and it is gone in the first year? As a ticket holder I just want consistency."
Ira Said:
Thu, July 30, 2009 - 7:03am ET"Randy should be the commish. Front page of NFL.Com today asks if the Jets SB win over the Colts was the biggest upset? I don't think so its was just because they were the 1st AFL team to win one. I felt the Jets and Raiders were both better that year. Whoever is going have a safe trip to Cortland. GO JETS!!! "
OriginalJetFan Said:
Thu, July 30, 2009 - 9:33am ET"Randy, just saw the weather report for Cortland, looks like Thunderstorms for the next 5-6 days. Do they have indoor practice facilities there, could be a wet week and I know they dont practice in thunder and lightning"
Randy Lange Said:
"Original, AccuWeather.com has some T-storms in Cortland for Friday but a generally dry forecast for the next five days after that. In any event, the team has a gameplan for rain and lightning, which we'll pass on if it's going to affect practice."
