EA: Search Goes On, Schefter Weighs In

The New York Jets are searching for their 16th full-time head coach and their interview process will begin in earnest this weekend.

Both offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and assistant head coach/offensive line coach Bill Callahan will get their opportunities Friday. And then on Saturday, Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo is scheduled to visit with Jets management.

EA: Cowher 'Not a Candidate for the Position'

The Jets reached out to Bill Cowher about their head coaching vacancy but were informed Tuesday night that Cowher has politely removed his name from the list of potential candidates. 

"After reaching out to Coach Cowher's representatives, we were informed tonight that he is not a candidate for the position," said Jets team spokesman Bruce Speight.

The Jets’ coaching search is officially under way and there has been an awful lot of speculation on Bill Cowher today.

John Clayton of ESPN.com reported this morning that the former Steelers head coach was not interested in the Jets’ vacancy because he wanted to bring in his own personnel director and the team wouldn't be open to that arrangement.

I was trying to be diplomatically neutral — or was it ironically vague? — when I suggested to one of my coworkers that today's Jets developments were "interesting."

"They're not interesting," he replied with a pained smile. "This is tough."
